Der Hayr's Weekly Message

Mother’s Day is one of those terms which simply perplexes me, I could never fathom nor understand why there is a particular day on the calendar to honor our Mothers and Fathers.
The Gospel both in the Old and New Testament tells us to honor our Mothers and Fathers so that our days will be long in the land of the living. One might ask why do we need to write and think about it?

Just as everything else seems to have fallen victim to the secular world of consumerism so now the concept of something that should be just a very natural part of our daily existence has become an opportunity for commercialization. Is there anything that is sacred any longer? It seems that even the most basic elements associated with being civil, moral, and respectful of basic human values has all become something connected to a bygone era.

Yes today is Mothers Day but then again so should everyday, these basic human concepts are not something that can be taught to us by a calendar date or the greeting card store, we have to learn them.

These are the things that are expected of us by God, St. Paul wrote that if someone does not care for others especially for those in their own families then they are worse than an unbeliever. The basic lesson from all of this is that charity toward others especially our own families begins and ends at home. As always the choice to do so is yours to make: A Happy Mothers Day and may everyday be another opportunity to give back to our Mothers the love and care they deserve for all of their love and sacrifice for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
