Building Committee Update - Sept. 2009

Dear Parishioners:

Your Building Committee completed the following work during the summer:

1.           Attic insulation;

2.           Gutters which connect to the Town's drainage system;

3.           Exterior granite stairs in front of the main entrance and side office door;

4.           Fire alarm compliance with local and state regulations;

5.           Cupola siding;

6.           Walkway leading from sidewalk to side office door;

7.           Landscaping and irrigation system;

8.           Capping of chimney;

9.           Expanded main entrance driveway; and

10.         Concrete pad for grilling area.

     In addition, your Committee worked closely with the Town of North Andover regarding new sidewalks as well as the Board of Trustees with regards to the new back patio area, dumpster area and fence. The new back patio area will serve our community well for many generations and will also serve as a beautiful memorial area for our beloved Der Vartan Kassabian. For those of you who have not seen all this work, we encourage you to take a look and see firsthand how your generosity has been utilized.

    We have come so far in just a few short years and we are almost at the finish line. Phase III, the final phase of your project, will begin shortly with the renovation of the sanctuary, hallways, classrooms, office and downstairs bathrooms. To kick off Phase III, we will start with a complete re-configuration of the two front staircases leading to the sanctuary, renovation of the front vestibule area, as well as the entrance leading from the vestibule area to the classroom hallway. This part of Phase III will cost approximately $100,000.00. This work is critical to resolving the difficulties encountered over the years with transporting caskets up and down from the sanctuary and it will also assist our elderly parishioners getting up to, and down from, the sanctuary. Each and every one of you will be hearing from a member of the Building Committee shortly to request your continued financial support and to answer any questions you may have relating to Phase III.

    We realize that our parish is still healing after the loss of our beloved Der Hayr. Your Committee believes that we can all find some comfort in knowing that the successful completion of your renovation project will serve as a constant reminder of Der Hayr's vision for our spiritual home. Your renovation project is a symbol of everything Der Hayr stood for and represented as he truly believed that a newly renovated Church would provide a platform for us to continue our Christian education and faith as well as to help those less fortunate.

    Again, in closing, I would like to thank all members of the Building Committee for their hard work and dedication. In addition, I would like to personally thank Greg Minasian of the Board of Trustees for his time, energy, and generosity in helping the Building Committee complete its various items of work over the summer months. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me or any other Building Committee member with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your project.

Sincerely,

Richard Shahtanian, Chairman

Building Committee
